Sam Chang Lobs Two More Gene Kaufman Hotels into Manhattan

New, 6 comments

Speaking of hotels, Sam Chang and his partner in crime designing ugly hotels, Gene Kaufman, are at it again, as the McSam Hotel Group just filed plans for two new ground-up projects—one at 538 West 58th Street (17 stories; 209 rooms) and one at 6 Water Street (right) in FiDi (29 stories; 231 rooms), The Real Deal reports. If you're experiencing a sense of deja vu, don't worry: this just happens every once in a while.

Despite the fact that the permits were filed by his company, Chang says that he isn't taking an active role in developing either project, turning over control of the 58th Street project to partner Barone Management and having a buyer lined up for the Water Street one. He also claims that he will formally retire in December.
