Greek-American newspaper The National Herald reports that Santiago Calatrava is the front-runner to design the rebuilt Church of St. Nicholas. Yes, that Santiago Calatrava. The church was destroyed by debris on 9/11, and its future home has been a source of controversy. The archdiocese says only that Calatrava was one of 12 or 13 architects asked to submit renderings. One point in his favor: he certainly knows the neighborhood by now. [NYP; previously]
