Mayor Bloomberg's controversial plan to lease public housing property to private developers to build apartments has drawn criticism from tenants, local politicians, and housing groups. Officials say that Bloomberg is trying to rush the plan to get it approved before his term is over. "The mayor is leaving. Why start this now? You're just throwing a grenade into the tents and hurting the New Yorkers with the least political power." An attorney representing the NYCHA tenants said the opposition's plan is "about running the clock out on the mayor. Clearly the other Democratic mayoral candidates have made it clear they don't agree with this." [WSJ; previously]
