Bad news for the Slip 'n' Sliders of the Lower East Side: your timeshare backyard is no more. The LoDown reports that the empty lot at 145 Ludlow Street?home to a grill-equipped green space rentable by the hour for the past two summers?sold to a developer and is headed for construction. Public records show the sale closed for $5.7 million, significantly less than the most recent $6.5 million asking price. The architecture firm of David Howell filed plans with the Department of Buildings for a six-story, eight-unit rental with 1,900-square-feet of retail space on the ground floor.
The walls of the property are currently covered with murals, and it sounds like the architects plan to preserve the artwork. From their website: "The existing graffiti on the lot is going to be photographed and/or used inside the completed building's lobby." Interesting!
Inside, floors three through five would each hold two two-bedroom apartments, while floors two and six would be configured as floor-through three-bedroom lofts. We've reached out to the firm for more info and, hopefully, renderings.
