Jupiter 21 Launches 52 Non-$10 Units Into Leasing Orbit

New, 9 comments

Let the interplanetary puns commence. Jupiter 21, the new luxury rental building put up by BFC Partners on the site of much beloved East Village dive Mars Bar (see the nomenclature connection?), has officially started leasing. Corcoran has 12 listings of the 52 units that are on the market, with studios starting at $3,450, one-bedrooms at $4,500, and two-bedrooms at $5,575. Those prices are light-years higher than the cost of the 13 affordable condos in the building, which BFC's Donald Capoccia arranged to sell, tax-free, to the old Mars Bar tenants for a scant $10 as part of his deal to get the land. We took a look inside the apartments last month, but now there are lots more photos, and floorplans, that shed (sun)light on this galactic residence. And yes, we're going to keep harping on that theme, because there's even a chandelier that looks like its namesake planet in the building's lobby. A chandelier. But there's more.

Anyone up for star-gazing from the building's two undoubtedly atmospheric communal terraces? According to the official website of Jupiter 21 (sometimes nicknamed J21, because they're cool like that), they're tricked out with couches and other seating, grills, TVs, a surround-sound system and a wet bar. Plus there's a DVD system for outdoor movie screenings. Beyond that, some of the units have terraces or balconies, too, especially on the higher floors, making for some pretty sweet views. And at the street level? Sayonara, Mars Bar, and greetings to a TD Bank and a TBD bar or lounge venue.

As for the apartments themselves, the marketing babble explains that each one has "oversized windows, natural hardwood flooring, walnut cabinets and European appliances. Custom countertops, contemporary fixtures and a luxurious array of tile and glass detail adorn each kitchen and bathroom. Building amenities include central air conditioning, rentable on-site storage, attended lobby and pet-friendly atmosphere." Here now, a bunch of interior photos and renderings:

In this oddly configured building shaped like a backwards letter "C," practically every unit has a different floorplan (find them all here), but here's a selection of the studios, 1BRs, and 2BRs.
