Vanity Fair has nominated to its Hall of Fame Andrew Berman of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, for being a slightly aggressive, pretty obsessive, nonstop go-getter for his cause(s). "[T]he pesky David to the Goliath developers who have come to define post-millennial Manhattan," Berman, in his 12 years heading the GVSHP, can also be "an ornery, contentious cuss capable of rubbing even his allies the wrong way?but, then, so was Jane Jacobs, the quintessential Villager, whose bloody-mindedness saved Lower Manhattan from Robert Moses's plans to put an expressway through it."
