The Sandy-destroyed boardwalk in the Rockaways may not be repaired in time for this summer's beach-goers, but at least the temporary walkway parallel to Shore Front Parkway is getting dressed up. After a competition with 50-plus entrants, three artists' designs were selected to grace the makeshift lane for cyclists and pedestrians that's been set up along the water. Brightly colored surfers and seagulls will surely cheer up the shore, but the whole presentation is bittersweet?they're merely superficial dressings for a concrete barrier to protect the street from storm surges.
