John D. Rockefeller wanted the Cloisters to have an unspoiled, natural feel so badly that he not only purchased its land in upper Manhattan but also part of the Palisades across the water in New Jersey. Nice try, Johnny boy, but LG Electronics' new headquarters is set to mar that pristine vista. As of yesterday, though, the Manhattan and Bronx borough presidents joined the raft of opponents to the too-tall development, penning a letter to the governor across the Hudson asking him to stop construction on the clifftop 143-foot structure. Because if we have to have a view of Jersey, we like it uninterrupted by man-made boxes. [NYDN; previously]
