After flirtations with The Link and the Park Imperial, Lady Gaga has settled on a 1,985-square-foot penthouse at 40 Central Park South. It went back on the rental market in April, and she's shelling out $22,000 a month for the 2BR/2BA duplex with a keyed elevator entrance?which, apparently, is some kind of celebrity magnet. Lance Armstrong, Liza Minnelli, and Broadway director/choreographer/writer/dancer Michael Bennett have all called it home. Among other amenities, it's got a walk-in closet for her zany ensembles, two wood-burning fireplaces, and four terraces overlooking the park.
We're a bit surprised at the choice, given the rather lackluster photos and stuffy decor, but perhaps now that Gaga's had hip surgery and all, her taste has turned towards the geriatric? Or the alluring brokerbabble, which alluded to "a Hollywood staircase" and "the ultimate in both celebrity in privacy," swayed the native New Yorker. That, or she couldn't find the real estate equivalent of a meat dress, just a big closet to put it in. Space was probably in short supply way back when she was renting a Lower East Side walk-up for $1,100 month. Gaga's come a long way, and maybe a good decorator can enliven up the unequivocally blah interiors with spikes, some neon, and maybe a disco stick.
