Parks of the Future

New, 1 comment

Presuming the community board and the parks department sign off on the plan, expect a futuristic-slash-apocalyptic art installation to grace the East Village's First Street Park for the summer. The "Urban Forest" design by local artists Jieun Yang and Ji Young Ki topped dozens of other submissions, eschewing any traditional notions of foliage in favor of mirrored poles topped by translucent discs. Weird flattened mushroom umbrellas? Let's just hope this isn't an eerily prescient vision of what New York City trees will look like in 2050, when all the traditional green ones are dead.
