An MTA utility building on Smith Street was once an ugly gray concrete bunker; we've called its original incarnation an eyesore and the fugliest building in all of Brooklyn. But no more! Now, post-conversion, boasting a red-brick facade and fortress-like crenellations, 166 Smith Street has eight new rental units on the market. (Hat tip to eagle-eyed Brownstoner for spotting the listings.) There are eight of 'em, ranging from a 1.5BR/2BA for $4,750/month to a 3.5BR/2BA for $7,995/month. Though each apartment has a different floorplan, they all have private outdoor space, hardwood floors, recessed lighting, dishwashers, and washer-dryers. Now for the downside? The swirly patterned facade of the Lululemon store at the ground level is mighty distracting.
