An abandoned Rockaways courthouse has officially been granted a new lease on life?as a medical center. The city approved Harmony Group's $50,000 buyout and conversion plan for Rockaway Courthouse yesterday, and for once, it wasn't a battle fraught with tension. The 1932-built Greco-Roman courthouse sat unused for 40 years, and after a $10 million overhaul that will restore the facade but completely redo the interiors by 2015, it will house 10 physicians who will practice ophthalmology, urology, obstetrics, gynecology, and orthopedics. Guess Queens residents need doctors more than landmarks. [NYDN; previously]
