'Watergate' In Dumbo; 50 United Nations Plaza Tops Out

New, 2 comments

DUMBO?Brooklyn artist Casey Opstad jazzed up a corrugated metal fence under the Manhattan Bridge with 275-square-foot mural called Watergate. The pixelated painting speaks to the digital designers working in the neighborhood, while the wave-like image references the nearby waterfront. The artist handpainted more than 100,000 half-inch squares to make the mural. "I made a boatload of work for myself, but this painting forced me to slow down and enjoy the process, rather than the finished product," said the artist. "Now it's all water under the bridge." Get it?? [CurbedWire Inbox; official]

MIDTOWN EAST?The Norman Foster-designed tower at 50 United Nations Plaza topped out today, reaching its full 44-story height. Earlier this week, a tipster sent along some insider information from the building sales director about the residences: "The duplex penthouse (the top two floors) of the building will have outdoor space. There are several other full-floor penthouses that do not. We are in the midst of finalizing our offering plan and hope to start an official sales campaign later this summer. The building will have 88 residences ranging in size from generously proportioned one bedrooms to a duplex penthouse measuring nearly ten thousand square feet." Yowza! [Curbedwire Inbox; previously]

TRIBECA?The penthouse of 250 West Street was taken off the market, and earlier this week, we heard a rumor that it may have been purchased by Leonardo DiCaprio. But, sadly for Tribecan Leo-lovers, that doesn't seem to be the case. Another tipster tells us that it was not purchased and it will be returning to the market soon. Meanwhile, we still haven't heard from the broker, so nothing has been confirmed. [CurbedWire Inbox; previously]
