Prewar Rental Claridge's Renovates Six Units From $5,795

New, 8 comments

The name Claridge's may invoke mostly British imagery: tea and crumpets; colonial elegance; the royal family. New York's Claridge's, on the other hand, is located in decidedly un-English Midtown and has 162 no-fee rental units, with six newly renovated ones that just went on the market. The overhauled apartments are all prewar one- and two-bedrooms?the 15-story building went up in the 1920s?that are not equipped with "condo finishes." To be precise, the official site touts 9-foot-high ceilings, restored moldings and beams, dishwashers, marble bathtubs, and walk-in closets, while some have separate service entrances, wood-burning fireplaces, and granite kitchen countertops. At 101 West 55th Street, gas and heat are included, and one- and two-year leases are possible. Penthouse units have terraces, some of which have Central Park views. Building amenities and common spaces were also given a facelift; they include a gym and a doorman, as well as a concierge service.

Now for the most important info, the pricing! In the building at large, 1BR/1BAs start at $2,695/month; 1BR/1.5BAs at $3,895; 2BR/2BAs at $4,295, and 2BRs/2.5BAs at $5,595. The renovated units are going for more than that, though, ranging from $5,795 to $8,795. there are five apartments currently listed on StreetEasy, all of them renovated except for the 2BR/2BA for $5,695. It's unclear whether developer Manhattan Skyline will renovate more units down the line.
