Renovated Time Warner Penthouse Returns For $75 Million

New, 38 comments

Four years ago, investor Gerhard Andlinger sold the 78th floor penthouse of the Time Warner Center for $37.5 million, and now the new owner (an anonymous entity identified in public records as Southerndown, Inc.) wants to sell the place for twice as much. The sprawling 8,300-square-foot condo has hit the market for a whopping $75 million, more than $9,000 per square foot. The final sale price in 2009 was considered quite a steal?it was first listed in 2008 for $65 million?but the place is entirely different than it was back then. According to the Sotheby's listing, the unit was gut renovated by designer Tony Ingrao. The redesigned space has a double living room, library, media room, and a master suite with full his-and-her bathrooms. There are four additional bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, plus a powder room and a staff room. It seems like the layout has been slightly reconfigured, but there's no updated floorplan on the listing, so we included the old one after the jump.

Given the craziness of the luxury market right now, will this penthouse have better luck than it did last time? Or will it meet the PriceChopper once again? The other Time Warner Penthouse is still on the market for $50 million. Last year, it dropped to $42.5 million, but after a year on the market and no buyer, it took the obvious route: up the price by $7.5 million.
