The U.S. Tennis Association won City Council approval for the expansion of the National Tennis Center, on the condition that the association will provide ongoing funding to Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Starting in 2014, the USTA will pay $10.5 million to the beleaguered parks: $5 million will go to capital projects; $350,000 a year for three years for maintenance and programming, and $200,000 a year for the next 20 years. Perhaps this will set a precedent for the proposed soccer stadium and Willets Point megaproject? [Capital NY; previously]
