Gem Tower To Open In 2014; New Tenants at Brookfield Place

And now, the latest from Racked NY, shopping and retail from the sidewalks up?

1) Midtown: Extell's International Gem Tower is 80 percent leased, and it should be open to the public by spring of next year. The top floors hold the office of diamond and jewelry companies, while the lower floors will have a precious gem marketplace.

2) Battery Park City: Brookfield Place (formerly the World Financial Center) announced a slew of new tenants this week. Equinox gym, Hermés, Burberry, Michael Kors, and Calypso St. Barth all signed on.

3) Long Island City: The Queens warehouse where Brooklyn Grange hosts its rooftop farm is welcoming a year-round flea market, courtesy a partnership between a sponsor, the farm, and Coffeed.

4) Bushwick: This North Brooklyn neighborhood is a breeding ground for independent book stores. Several have opened in the last year, and at least two host regular neighborhood events.
