In the Rezone

New, 6 comments

As the controversial plan to rezone Midtown East works its way through the city's labyrinthine approval process, all eyes are turning to borough president Scott Stringer, who has yet to weigh in. If he comes out in favor of the Bloomberg-championed proposal, along with Senator Chuck Schumer, the development-happy Real Estate Board of NY, and others, it would no doubt please those real estate-related parties who have donated $600,000 (of about $2.3 million total) to his campaign. Striking down the plan, though, would likely offend powerful preservation groups and many community boards. What's a newly contested candidate for comptroller to do? [WSJ; previously]
