Inside New 'Burg Rental 53 Broadway; Designing Seaport City

New, 7 comments

WILLIAMSBURG?We now know what the 72 units at red-white-and-gray rental 53 Broadway look like. Aptsandlofts.com released the photographs above, and here are some floorplans and listings. Prices range from a studio for $2,215/month to a 2BR with a balcony for $4,246. Looks like the building's long-stalled days are over, because a rep sends word that it is officially launching on August 9 and there are already over 200 people on the reserve list. LOWER MANHATTAN?One of the most controversial parts of Mayor Bloomberg's post-Sandy plans?Seaport City, the proposed elevated neighborhood from the Battery to just north of the Manhattan Bridge?is seeking a mastermind. Today the mayor's office issued a request for proposals "to study the potential development" of the area. It's one crucial (and expensive) cog in Bloomie's mega storm damage prevention report and it will be designed specifically to protect residents living in that flood-prone area. Due August 22, applicants "will provide a comprehensive assessment that considers all the relevant aspects needed to develop a multi-purpose levee at Seaport City, including technical, financial and legal feasibility." PARK SLOPE?"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Ferris Bueller, if only you could have seen just how lightning-quick the Brooklyn real estate scene is. Just yesterday, we wrote about the 10 cheapest single-family, no-major-renovations-required properties for sale in Brownstone Brooklyn, and lo and behold, today, the third-cheapest is in contract. It's a 4BR/3A at 418 10th Street with renovated interiors and a landscaped garden that asked $2.695 million. The power of the press? Nah, just a white-hot market. [CurbedWire Inbox; previously]
