Clinton Hill Neighbors Blindsided by New Mixed-Used Building

New, 21 comments

It's been a busy week for Silverstone Property Development. Last Friday, news broke that they're going to bring a 75-unit rental building to Park Slope's Canyon of Mediocrity. And last night, at what DNAinfo describes as a "last-minute meeting," they informed Clinton Hill residents of their plans to break ground on a seven-story, 232-unit (20 percent affordable), mixed-use building at 490 Myrtle Avenue next week, to which the residents responded, "Wait, what?"

The building will be plopped on top of an existing structure that formerly housed an Associated Supermarket. The supermarket will return after a gut renovation and the other ground-floor commercial space will be occupied by a TD Bank. The project has an expected completion date early 2015. Silverstone is also planning another project next door at 504 Myrtle Avenue, and promised the neighbors that they would do a better job of communicating about this one, although, technically, they already have.
