At the end of June, the Museum of the City of New York abandoned ship at the South Street Seaport Museum, leaving the nonprofit institution without a captain. But the city sent out a rescue boat by appointing three city employees as trustees; if the museum wants to remain a nonprofit, it must have at least three board members. Since Hurricane Sandy ravaged the waterfront, the maritime museum has struggled to get back on its feet, and the city-appointed board is only a temporary solution. If another entity does not take control of the museum soon, it may have to close. [NYT; previously]
