Ignoring the pleas of architectural preservationists, Community Board 7's parks committee voted to support the city's plan to flatten a topographically interesting (read: uneven, but on purpose!) playground that neighbors claim trips children and skins knees. Designed by landscape architect M. Paul Friedberg in the "adventure" style, the future of Playground 89 spurred UWS parents into a four-hour shouting match last night that preceded the vote. The full board convenes Thursday, but it's likely to support the renovation, too. [NYDN]
