Nighthawks Revisited

The Village diner portrayed in Edward Hopper's Nighthawks may never have existed, but that hasn't stopped the painting and the diner from becoming Village lore. Now the Whitney Musem has installed a recreation of Nighthawks in the Prow Artspace of the Flatiron Building. There's a connection: Whitney drawing curator Carter E. Foster thinks the Flatiron's prow was one of the painting's inspirations. The recreation involves life-size cutouts and will be up until October 6. [VNY]
