Speculation ran wild on Friday that Bed-Stuy's Slave Theater was inevitably headed for a condo conversion. It turns out, though, that a Brooklyn theater company (which had originally tried to buy the historic epicenter of African-American activism) is negotiating with the new owners to maintain a theater on the spot. "[W]e expect those talks to succeed," New Brooklyn Theater board member Jeff Strabone tells us. "There is no scenario under discussion that does not involve theater being restored to 1215 Fulton Street. ... Negotiations are generally not sexy enough to make the papers, but the results will be very sexy." [previously; photo via Flickr/universalhiphopparade]
