This coming Wednesday, August 28, Open House New York will hold the second of its two summer boat tours. And we're offering two free pairs of tickets to two lucky Curbed readers?ordinarily $30 or $40 a pop. The details: the two-hour tour departs from Pier 16 at the South Street Seaport at 6:30 p.m. This time, the tour will include guest commentators Justin Davidson of New York Magazine (one of our favorite archicritics), Robert Balder of Cornell's Architecture Art and Planning program, Andrew Winters of Cornell NYC Tech, and Deborah Marton of the New York Restoration Project. "In addition to learning about new architecture and development along the waterfront," the OHNY babble explains, "this East River Boat Tour will also consider the city's changing approaches to building along its edges in response to Hurricane Sandy and rising sea levels." Delightful and informative!
To have a shot at the tickets?again, we'll be giving away two tickets each to two Curbed readers?send us your favorite line or passage about the East River. It could be anything from a fragment of a piece of criticism (like an architecture review, or even an academic paper) to a quotation from your favorite waterfront analysis-giver or snarky commentator to a more lyrical description of the area from a novel, poem, historical primary source, or any other tome. Submissions are due to tips@curbed.com by 5 p.m. tomorrow, and we'll choose the winners early next week. Good luck!
