The International Center for Photography just debuted an exhibit on Governors Island that chronicles both the destruction by and the recovery from Hurricane Sandy. From a public call for submissions that attracted 7,000 entries, curators picked 100 works to display in "Rising Waters; Photographs of Hurricane Sandy" that were snapped by more than 90 different photographers?some professional, some amateur. Our own camera-toting documentarian Nathan Kensinger chronicled the superstorm's impact in Brooklyn, the Rockaways, Staten Island, yet images of the milestone event don't seem to lose their intrigue, always managing to pack a powerful visual and emotional punch. Until September 22, the show is open Saturdays and Sundays (as well as Labor Day) from noon to 6 p.m at Building 19 in Nolan Park.
