DJ/writer Brendan Jay Sullivan's memoir of late nights on the Lower East Side with Lady Gaga?back when she was a resident of Stanton Street?is finally out. Bedford and Bowery talked to Sullivan, who goes by VH1, about where in the neighborhood they cavorted. Think Welcome to the Johnsons, Stanton Social, Motor City, and the Hotel on Rivington. Sullivan's grandiose thesis is that the LES was "dead" before the days of Gaga (we're talking circa 2004 here), which is a somewhat dubious claim. "Now we're at a point where people aren't coming downtown because they wanna be the next Strokes," says the tale-spinning Sullivan. "They're coming downtown because they wanna be the next Lady Gaga, you know?" Hmm. [B+B via Racked NY; official]
