According to investigators, the balcony that gave way and caused a woman to fall to her death earlier this week was not up to code. The woman, Jennifer Rosoff, was leaning against the balcony railing of her 17th floor condo at 400 East 57th Street on Thursday night, when it gave way. Investigators on the scene quickly concluded that the railing—at least seventy years old—had been installed without rivets, and according to the Department of Buildings, the building's management missed the filing date for their facade report by six months and may be fined as a result. A civil suit is also likely. [Gothamist; DNAinfo]
