DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN?Over the weekend, two graffiti artists turned the drab Grove Place Alley into a colorful display of art. In advance of the BEAT Festival, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership invited artists See One and Remix to create a giant music-themed mural called "Follow the BEAT." The single-block long Grove Place runs parallel to Bond and Nevins Street, connecting Livingston and Fulton Streets. The mural is located on a brick wall in a half-block long alley that extends off of Grove Place. [CurbedWire Inbox; photos]
EVERYWHERE?Architecture and design nerds should clear their schedules for October. The third annual Archtober extravaganza is taking place throughout New York, celebrating all things related to (can you guess?) architecture and design with a month full of events, exhibits, talks, and activities. The theme month comes from the Center for Architecture and AIA New York, and it kicks off at the Center with a new exhibit called Practical Utopias. The exhibit will showcase recent design and urbanization in five Asian cities because "New York is a big exporter of great architecture in Asia." Throughout October, more than 150 events will be held at the Center and 50 other organizations. [CurbedWire Inbox; official]
