The Hopper-Gibbons House controversy, which recently entered its fifth year, may have an end in sight. Tony Mamounas, the owner, will face off against the city in New York Supreme Court today and learn once and for all whether the Landmarks Commission has the jurisdiction to tell him to remove his penthouse addition. Mamounas added the penthouse to the last surviving Underground Railroad stop in Manhattan in either 2005 (before it was landmarked) or 2010 (after), depending on who you ask. [DNAinfo; previously]
