The Prospect-Lefferts Gardens block between Washington and Bedford Avenues on Sterling Street has been trying for the past eight years to win the Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest and finally nabbed the top spot this year. The block's enthusiastic gardening community introduced whiskey barrels with plants in them to sidewalk after finishing in fourth last year. They plan to use the prize money to build a children's garden with edible vegetables. This is just nice. [NYDN]
