Where To Not Hide Your Tainted Money

New, 4 comments

Six properties across Manhattan were allegedly purchased with money laundered by some folks who committed tax fraud in Russia. Because what safer place than a booming New York market to stash that $230 million you so sketchily procured? Now authorities are going after the presumed criminal(s), filing a civil complaint that would force the owners of four condominiums and two commercial spaces to hand 'em over to the government. One twist in this nascent legal battle: the lawyer who first blew the whistle on these bad guys died in 2009 while in a Russian prison with dubious conditions?where he was thrown, ironically enough, for tax evasion.
