City Planning has checked one major project off of its approval list. Today the commission gave its blessing to the New York Wheel, the 625-foot-tall circle of fun headed for the Staten Island waterfront courtesy of developer and NY Wheel CEO Rich Marin. The adjacent Empire Outlets, designed by SHoP and developed by BFC Partners, was also approved. The developments are on track to bring a 200-room hotel, 350,000 square feet of retail, and a new waterfront park to St. George by 2016. City Council votes on the proposals on October 30.
