To the surprise of no one, the North Brooklyn community board voted against the two-tower development proposed for 77 Commercial Street. The land use committee chair called the height of the buildings?40 stories?"disgusting," and repeated the common refrain of the area's need for more "truly" affordable housing. The Chetrit Group's current plans include units that would be affordable to families who make 80 percent of the Area Median Income, but the board wants that dropped to 40 to 60 percent of the AMI. The also want at least 100 of the 6,100 units set aside for seniors. [DNAinfo; previously]
