Tenants of London Terrace Gardens will be going down the same legal road as the tenants of Stuy-Town and Cooper Village. A judge said that Gardens tenants could pursue legal action as a class in regards to illegal rent hikes. The decision was based on the 2009 ruling that found Tishman Speyer and MetLife had illegally deregulated apartments while taking tax breaks for renovations, known as the J-51 program. The Gardens' landlord said they based their actions off of information from the DHCR, but the judge said DHCR had a "faulty interpretation of a current statute." [TRD; previously]
