Fun With Urban Planning

The long-delayed pedestrian and bike bridge that would connect the South Bronx to Randall's Island may soon begin construction. The plan for the bridge was announced seven years ago, but development pretty much remained stagnant as the city argued with property owners over building rights. Now, the NYC Economic Development Corporation has obtained the necessary easements (the path will cut through the Harlem River Yards, a 96-acre zone owned by the state Transportation Department and leased to various companies) to begin construction early next year. Contractor bids are due October 8. [DNAinfo; previously]
