East Village Tumor Building Finally Removes Its Penthouse

The Board of Standards and Appeals and East Village landlord Ben Shaoul have been fighting over Shaoul's rooftop addition to a pair of buildings at 514-516 East Sixth Street since 2008. And for the past three years?since the BSA ruled that Shaoul's sixth-floor addition could remain on the building but the penthouse could not?we've been waiting for that penthouse to vamoose. Its disappearance is finally in progress, and EV Grieve presents a series of photos of the deconstruction. Above, what the penthouse looked like in June and what it looked like just this Tuesday.
