Neighborhood Beefs

Marty Markowitz, after years of looking for a home for his seaside summer concert series, settled on a plan earlier this year to convert Coney Island's historic Childs Building into a performance venue with restaurant, cafe, and park space. The neighbors, though, appear no fonder of this plan than they were of its predecessor, the potato-chip-shaped amphitheater. At a recent hearing, they argued that the venue would be noisy and lead to way too much traffic, not to mention that it wouldn't do much to bring jobs to the neighborhood. [BK Paper; previously]
