A group of frustrated cyclists, calling itself Right of Way, has formed to ride around Midtown under the cover of night and create unsanctioned bike lanes using stencils and spray paint. The reception so far has, of course, been mixed. "As the group painted the streets, several people operating pedicabs waved in thanks and began riding in the newly created lane. They were followed by a car, which smeared one of the new logos." [NYT; previously]
