Gentrifcation Watch

New, 6 comments

Here's a little story about how one Bushwick resident learned to stop worrying and love accept the gentrification of her area. Raised between "two notoriously shitty blocks," 26-year-old Rosa Rivera and her parents witnessed the influx of new tenants and cute boutiques firsthand. She and her fiance both still live with their parents because of mounting costs of living: "I see the gut renovation my landlord did as soon as we moved out and feel disgusted. I see my best friends and families having to move to Cypress Hills and East New York and I am livid." But then she realized what she's experiencing isn't new, that it's part of the relentless cycle of this crazy city, and that she has to forgive. Pretty moving stuff, actually. [Gothamist]
