Non-profit Artspace is converting East Harlem's abandoned P.S. 109 into affordable housing for artists, and the project is about halfway done. Applications?which should be available soon?won't actually be restricted to artists, but they will receive preference, as will current residents of East Harlem. Artspace has restored the gargoyle and other exterior features and is reinstalling the building's spire and copper turrets. [DNAinfo; previously]
