Breaking news, everybody: houses in Red Hook are just as not as cheap as you'd think they'd be. (We'd already realized this. Van Brunt Street house, anyone?) New Yorkers even leave SoHo to buy this stuff. One broker, who grew up in the flood zone neighborhood, expresses disbelief at the rising prices and also regrets he didn't invest more: "[It's] something I couldn't have imagined. If I could have, I'd own half the neighborhood. But I have two buildings, so I can't complain." [NYP; photo of potentially record-setting 80 Pioneer Street, which is asking $2.25 million]
