Is the Dakota finally emerging from the mists of scandal? Not only has the crushed velvet spectacular on the building's upper floors sold, but now, in our second Dakota news item of the day, NFL coach/broadcaster John Madden's co-op in the building has also sold. The Observer spotted the sale in public records; the final price was also the most recent asking price of $3.9 million. The broker was Dolly Lenz, who recently broke with the establishment to go it alone.
As for Madden's apartment, the 2BR/2.5BA has a private entrance off the building's courtyard?and a thoroughly dated kitchen setup. Still, the buyer gets double celebrity cred: before Madden purchased the place for $625,000 in 1985, it belonged to Gilda Radner. The buyers are Gregor and Cecilia Freund; Gregor is the founder of an antivirus software company.
