Just a reminder: today is the day that the Pier 17 mall closes, after 28 years in the South Street Seaport, in order to make way for the newer and shinier SHoP Architects-designed mall. The booted store owners aren't sure where they'll go next, what with rents being so high throughout the city, and, while nobody ever really liked the mall in the first place, it's still all kind of sad. Check out Nathan Kensinger's photo essay from last week and say your goodbyes. [DNAinfo; previously]
