In 1986, the Port Authority quietly sold the five "World Trade Center" trademarks to a non-profit group created by Guy Tozzoli, the former director of their World Trade Center Department. The price: $10. Tozzoli, who died in January, went on to make millions licensing the name out through his group, the World Trade Centers Association, which still controls trademarks in more than 100 countries and has asked the Port Authority for free office space worth $585K annually in exchange for allowing them to use the worlds "World Trade Center" on merchandise.
