Converted Bushwick Factory Seeks Legalization Under Loft Law

449 Troutman Street, a former factory building in Bushwick that was illegally converted into apartments at some point prior to 2001, is seeking protection under the expanded Loft Law, Wyckoff Heights reports. While many Loft Law cases consist of tenants fighting against eviction, this one is different as the landlords are the ones seeking loft law protection, probably so they don't run into any problems as they market the building's ground floor for commercial use. The building's residential portion consists of 24 apartments on the upper three floors. There are currently a number of open Environmental Control Board violations as well as a Partial Vacate Order due to structural instability after a fire broke out this summer.
