Over the last few years, all of Long Island City has seen a burst of development, but the area around the once filthy Queens Plaza has arguably changed the most. A $45 million renovation created the new Dutch Kills Green park, opened in 2012, and since a 2001 rezoning, more than 5,000 apartments have been built (or will be built) in the areaand more than half of those are within two blocks of Queens Plaza.
