The Wall Street Journal, of all places, might have the most extreme statement about the abrupt shuttering of Greenwich Village's Gray's Papaya: "When the Gray's Papaya on Eighth Street at the intersection of Greenwich and Sixth avenues suddenly shut down last week, some fans took it as a kind of lowbrow version of the notorious demolition of the old Pennsylvania Station in 1963." Really? Well, Gray's Papaya will be replaced with an over-priced juice bar, and Madison Square Garden does sell over-priced food, so....Nope, still not the same. [WSJ; PapayaGate on EaterNY]
