Ben "The Sledgehammer" Shaoul is moving on up from his myriad, somewhat controversial East Village projects to develop a building further uptown. His real estate group is behind a planned 146,000-square-foot dormitory building for the School of Visual Arts at 407 First Avenue at 24th Street. It's set to house 505 students and be the school's flagship residence hall. Ismael Leyva is the architect, so right off the bat it seems a lot bigger and fancier than other dorm projects of late.
