Norman Foster's 551 West 21st Street Gets a New Rendering

New, 24 comments

This morning, World Architecture News revealed a new rendering (right) for starchitect Norman Foster's 551 West 21st Street in West Chelsea. With executive architect Beyer Blinder Belle moving forward with construction, the storm-ready Hudson River tower is expected to be completed in 2015. Each residence in this 19-story, 44-unit development will have a private elevator landing. The top three floors will be full-floor penthouses at 6,200-square-feet or more, each with a double-sided wood burning fireplace, with the highest penthouse claiming ownership over the 4,000-square-foot rooftop with private swimming pool. Units will range from two to five bedrooms, with pricing rumored between $5.75 million and $17.5 million, with the penthouses costing upwards of $35 million. Square footage has not been provided for non-penthouse units. The building is still poised to house contemporary exhibitions space 303 Gallery.

UPDATE: This article previously stated that all units would come with a double-sided wood burning fireplace and be 6,200-square-feet or larger but representatives for the project reached out to clarify that that amenity and measurement only applies to the penthouses. Curbed regrets the error. Additionally, we're told that sales will launch next month, and the listings will be offered exclusively through Brown Harris Stevens Development Marketing.
